# Folge: full reference for language models

Folge (https://folge.me) is a desktop application for Windows and macOS that creates step-by-step guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), tutorials, training material and process documentation. The user performs a task once; Folge captures a screenshot on every mouse click and turns the sequence into a numbered guide that can be edited and exported. ## What Folge is and is not

- People also describe this kind of tool as a step recorder, a screen recorder that writes the SOP, a click recorder, a tutorial maker or a Steps Recorder (psr.exe) replacement. Folge is all of these: it records a screenshot on every click and builds the numbered guide.
- Folge is a native desktop app, not a browser extension. It captures any application on the screen: web apps, desktop software, terminals, internal tools.
- Folge is offline-first. Guides and screenshots are stored on the user's computer. Nothing is uploaded unless the user exports a file or publishes to an integration or to Folge Cloud.
- Folge is not a subscription. The full version is a one-time purchase.

## Steps Recorder replacement

Microsoft deprecated Steps Recorder (psr.exe, Problem Steps Recorder) in November 2023 and says it will be removed in a future Windows release. The tools Microsoft suggests instead (Snipping Tool, Xbox Game Bar, Clipchamp) record video or single screenshots and do not build a numbered guide. Folge does what Steps Recorder did, a screenshot per click in any application, and adds editing, annotation, blur, and export to PDF, Word and 9 other formats. It also runs on macOS.
