AVIF to PNG Converter

Tool is 100% private: operates entirely in your browser. No data ever leaves your device. Your data is safe and private!

Drag and drop AVIF files here, or click to browse

Also accepts WebP, JPEG, and other browser-decodable image formats. Convert as many files as you like, all in one batch.

Off by default, so PNGs keep their alpha channel exactly as decoded.

Tool Introduction

This AVIF to PNG converter decodes your AVIF files using your browser's own built-in image decoder and re-encodes them as PNG on a canvas, all on your device. Drop in one file or a whole batch, and each one gets its own row with a preview, the original size, and the converted size, so you can see exactly what changed. Nothing is uploaded to a server at any point.

How to Use the AVIF to PNG Converter

  • Drag AVIF files onto the drop area, or click it to browse and pick files
  • Add as many files as you want in one batch, they convert one after another
  • Check "Flatten transparency onto a white background" only if you want a solid background instead of a transparent PNG
  • Watch each row switch to "Done" with a preview thumbnail and a new file size
  • Download files one at a time, or use "Download All (.zip)" for the whole batch

Use Cases: Why Convert AVIF to PNG

  • Opening an AVIF photo in older editing software that only reads PNG or JPEG
  • Uploading to a website or form that rejects AVIF files
  • Keeping transparency intact when a JPEG conversion would flatten it
  • Converting a batch of AVIF exports before sharing them with someone else
  • Archiving images in a format with broader long-term software support

More Image Tools

Once your images are in PNG, the Image Compressor can shrink the file size without leaving your browser, and Image to Base64 turns any image into a data URL you can paste straight into CSS or HTML.

FAQs

Is this AVIF to PNG converter free and private?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, and the conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your AVIF files are never uploaded anywhere: nothing leaves your device.

Does converting AVIF to PNG keep transparency?

Yes, by default. PNG supports an alpha channel, so any transparent pixels in the source image stay transparent. If you would rather have a solid background, check "Flatten transparency onto a white background" before converting, and the tool will paint white behind the image instead of keeping it transparent.

Is there a file size or batch limit?

There is no hard cap built into the tool, since everything runs in your browser using your own device. In practice, very large files or very large batches are limited by your browser's available memory. Converting dozens of typical AVIF images at once works fine; if you run into slowdowns with huge files, convert them in smaller batches.

Why convert AVIF to PNG?

AVIF is a modern, highly compressed image format, but plenty of older software, design tools, and some websites still expect PNG or do not support AVIF at all. Converting to PNG gives you a widely compatible file you can drop into almost any editor, document, or upload form.

What should I do if a conversion fails?

The row for that file will show a red "Failed" badge, and hovering it shows the exact reason, usually that your browser cannot decode that image format yet. AVIF decoding is supported natively in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari; updating your browser usually fixes it. If a specific file is corrupted or not actually an image, it will fail the same way.

Can I convert other formats, or only AVIF?

The tool is built around AVIF, but the file picker and drag-and-drop area also accept WebP, JPEG, and other formats your browser can decode, and it converts those to PNG the same way. Mixing formats in one batch is fine.
