A random letter for word games
In Scattergories, Name, Place, Animal, Thing (Stadt Land Fluss, Petit Bac, Tutti Frutti) and similar games, each round starts with one letter. The quick setups leave out the letters those games skip: Scattergories has no Q, U, V, X, Y or Z, and Name, Place, Animal, Thing is often played without Q, X and Z. With "No repeats across rounds" on, a letter that has come up stays out until you press Reset, and the letters drawn so far are listed under the button.
Letters from a range or your own set
Pick from a range such as A to J or A to E for groups, rows or answer options, from vowels or consonants for phonics practice, or from letters you type in. "Leave out these letters" takes away any you don't want. The line under the settings shows exactly which letters are in the draw.
A letter wheel for the classroom
"Letter wheel" puts the same letters on a spinning wheel, which is easier to follow on a projector than a letter that just appears. Spin it for a spelling word, a category game or whose turn it is.

How do I pick a random letter?
A letter is already on the screen when the page opens. Press Generate, or the Space bar, for the next one. Every letter you are drawing from has the same chance.
Can I pick a random letter from A to J, or another range?
Yes. Under "Letters to pick from", choose "A range, like A to J" and set the first and last letter. "A to J" is also one of the quick setups.
Which letters does Scattergories leave out?
The Scattergories die has 20 letters and no Q, U, V, X, Y or Z. The "Scattergories" quick setup leaves out the same six, so you can play without the die.
Can I play Name, Place, Animal, Thing with it?
Yes. The "Name, Place, Animal, Thing" setup leaves out Q, X and Z, which few words start with. Turn on "No repeats across rounds" so each round gets a new letter. The same works for Stadt Land Fluss, Petit Bac and Tutti Frutti.
How do I stop the same letter coming up in a later round?
Turn on "No repeats across rounds". Letters you have drawn stay out until you press Reset, and the list under the button shows which ones have come up.
Can I leave out letters?
Yes. Type them into "Leave out these letters", for example QXZ. This works with the whole alphabet, a range, vowels, consonants or your own letters.
Can I pick from vowels or consonants only?
Yes. "Letters to pick from" covers the whole alphabet, a range, vowels only, consonants only, or a set of letters you type yourself.
Can I get random letters on a spinning wheel?
Yes, switch to "Letter wheel" at the top. The wheel carries the letters you chose, so a class or a group can watch the pick happen.
Can I generate several letters at once?
Yes, up to 100 in one go, in uppercase, lowercase or mixed case, on one line or as a list. Turn off "Allow repeats in one draw" if each letter may appear only once.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up and nothing to install. It runs in your browser.
