Spelling Bee Solver

Stuck on the NYT Spelling Bee? Get hints first, and the answers only when you want them.

Type the 7 letters, center letter first. Tap a letter in the hive to make it the center.

How it works

Type today's 7 letters with the center letter first, for example TACILNO. Hints appear first: how many words start with each letter, the two-letter list and the pangram count. Open Answers only when you want them, and tap a word to reveal it or to mark it as found.

How to use the Spelling Bee solver

  • Type the 7 letters with the center letter first. On a phone, one field is all it takes
  • If you typed the center letter later, tap it in the hive to move it to the middle
  • Start with Hints: words left by first letter and length, the two-letter list and the pangram count
  • Open Answers when you are ready. Words stay blurred until you tap one
  • Tap the words you have found, or paste them, to see your score and rank

It works as a Spelling Bee helper, a word finder and a pangram solver in one: every result comes from the same 7 letters, and nothing is sent to a server.

Spelling Bee rules and scoring

Every word has at least 4 letters, uses only the 7 letters in the hive, and includes the center letter. Letters can repeat. The word list leaves out words that are obscure, hyphenated, proper nouns or offensive.

WordPoints
4 letters1 point
5 letters or more1 point per letter
Pangram (uses all 7 letters)1 point per letter, plus 7

That makes long words and pangrams the high-scoring words in Spelling Bee. An 8-letter pangram is worth 15 points, as much as fifteen 4-letter words.

Points needed for Genius and Queen Bee

Ranks are a share of the puzzle's total points, so the number changes every day. Enter the letters and the solver works out the exact points for each rank.

What is a pangram?

In Spelling Bee, a pangram is a word that uses all 7 letters at least once. Every puzzle has at least one. A perfect pangram uses each letter exactly once, so it is exactly 7 letters long. The solver lists pangrams first, highlights them, and counts perfect ones separately.

Common, less common and rare words

The daily list is picked by hand and sticks to words most people know. To get close to it, the solver sorts its dictionary by how common each word is and shows common words by default. Switch on less common words if you are hunting for the last few points, and rare words if you want everything the letters can spell. The letter S almost never appears in the puzzle, but it is supported when it does.

Tips to find more words

  • Look for the pangram first. It is worth 7 extra points
  • Try endings the letters allow, such as -ING, -ED, -ER, -TION or -LY
  • Add prefixes like RE-, UN- or IN- to words you already have
  • Letters repeat, so try doubled patterns like -LL-, -TT- or -EE-
  • Use the two-letter list to see which starts still hide words

FAQs

Is this Spelling Bee solver free?

Yes. There is no account and no limit, and it runs in your browser, so the letters you type are not sent anywhere.

Does it show today’s Spelling Bee answers?

It solves the letters you type. Enter today’s 7 letters, center letter first, and you get the hints and the word list for that puzzle. It does not copy the official answer list, so the totals are an estimate.

How many points do you need for Genius?

Genius is 70% of the puzzle’s total points, rounded to the nearest point. A puzzle worth 200 points needs 140. The solver shows the exact target for your letters, and the Ranks tab lists every rank.

What percentage of people get Genius on Spelling Bee?

The New York Times does not publish that figure. Genius needs 70% of the points, which usually means finding most of the common words plus at least one pangram, so the hint grid is the quickest way to see what you are still missing.

What is the trick to Spelling Bee?

Find the pangram early, since it is worth 7 extra points. Then work through common endings that the letters allow, such as -ING, -ED, -TION or -LY, and try each word with prefixes like RE- or UN-. When you get stuck, the two-letter list tells you which starts still have words left.

Why does the solver list words the game does not accept?

The puzzle editor picks each day’s list by hand and leaves out words that are obscure, hyphenated, proper nouns or offensive. The solver uses a general dictionary ranked by how common each word is. Common words are shown by default, and less common or rare words only appear if you switch them on.

The game accepted a word the solver missed. Does it still count?

Yes. Add it under "Words you already found" and it counts toward your score, marked as not in our list.

Can I use a letter more than once?

Yes. Every letter can repeat as often as you like, as long as each word has at least 4 letters and includes the center letter.

Is this site affiliated with The New York Times?

No. Spelling Bee is a New York Times game, and this is an independent solver that is not connected to it.
