Instead of using a special font, Zalgo text works by stacking Unicode combining diacritical marks, ordinary characters that fonts render on top of, below, or through the letter they follow, onto every character you type. How does the Zalgo effect actually work?
Every letter you type stays exactly as it is. What changes is that extra invisible-width Unicode characters, called combining marks, get attached right after each letter. Fonts render these marks stacked on top of, below, or through the base character instead of as separate characters, which is what creates the glitchy, dripping look. Nothing is actually corrupted: it is all valid, plain Unicode text.
Why do I get a different result every time for the same text?
The marks are chosen randomly within the intensity level you pick, so retyping the same word or clicking "Randomize Again" produces a new, equally chaotic combination. If you want to keep a specific version, copy it as soon as you like it, since regenerating will change it.
Will Zalgo text work everywhere I paste it?
Most modern platforms (Discord, Twitter/X, TikTok, iMessage, most websites) render combining marks correctly. Some older apps, certain username or bio fields, and form validators strip or limit combining marks for security or length reasons, so it is worth testing in the exact place you plan to use it, especially at higher intensity levels.
What is the difference between the intensity levels?
Mini adds just a few marks per letter for a subtle glitch. Normal is the classic Zalgo look. Maxi piles on noticeably more marks for a heavier effect. Chaos adds the maximum number of marks per letter, which can make longer words hard to read and is best used for short, punchy phrases.
Can I control where the marks appear?
