How to resize a GIF
- Drop your GIF in the box above, choose it from your files, or paste it
- Type the new width, or pick 25%, 50% or 75%; the height follows to keep the shape

- Press Download GIF, or Share on a phone to save it to Photos
Resize an animated GIF without breaking it
A GIF is a stack of frames, and many GIFs only store the part of each frame that changed. Resizing each stored piece on its own is what causes smeared edges and broken animations. This tool rebuilds every frame the way your browser shows it, resizes the full picture, and writes the frames back with their original delays. Unlock the aspect ratio to set width and height separately, and turn on sharp pixels when you scale up pixel art so it stays crisp instead of blurring.
Crop, rotate and flip a GIF
Turn on Crop and drag over the part of the animation you want to keep. Lock the box to 1:1 for emoji and avatars, 16:9 for video thumbnails or 9:16 for stories. The rotate buttons turn the GIF a quarter turn at a time, and the flip buttons mirror it, for example to make a reaction GIF face the other way. Crop and rotation are applied before resizing, so the width and height you type are always the final size.
Change GIF speed, reverse it or set the loop
The speed slider goes from 0.25× to 4×. Slowing down stretches each frame's delay. Speeding up shortens it, but browsers show any frame shorter than 20 milliseconds for a full 100 milliseconds, which is why some sped-up GIFs end up playing slower. When that limit is reached, frames are merged so the GIF really plays at the speed you picked. Reverse plays the animation backwards, and the loop setting makes it repeat forever, play once, or play a set number of times.
Make a GIF smaller: compress it to a file size
Three things decide how big a GIF is: its pixel size, the number of frames and the number of colors in each frame. Halving the width removes three quarters of the pixels. Keeping every 2nd frame halves the frames while the animation keeps its length. Going from 256 to 64 colors usually shrinks the file a lot with little visible change on simple animations. Pick a preset or enter your own limit in KB, and if the result is over it, Make it fit tries fewer colors, then fewer frames, then a smaller size until the GIF fits.
GIF size limits for Discord, Slack and Twitch
| Where | Size | File limit |
|---|---|---|
| Discord emoji | 128 × 128 px | 256 KB |
| Slack emoji | 128 × 128 px | 128 KB |
| Twitch animated emote | 112 × 112 px, square, up to 60 frames | 1 MB |
Limits as published by each service at the time of writing; they change now and then. An emoji is shown at about 32 pixels in chat, so a 128 pixel GIF stays sharp on high resolution screens without wasting file size.
Private: your GIF never leaves your device
Most online GIF resizers upload your file to their server, resize it there and send it back. Here the decoding, resizing and encoding all run in your browser, so it is fast, works with GIFs you would rather not share, and keeps working on a weak connection once the page has loaded.

FAQs
How do I resize a GIF without losing the animation?
Drop the GIF above and type the width you want. Every frame is resized and the timing stays the same, so the GIF plays exactly as before, only smaller or larger. Press Download GIF to save it.
How do I make a GIF smaller in file size?
Reduce the width first: half the width is roughly a quarter of the pixels, and usually much less than half the file size. If it is still too big, lower the colors per frame to 128 or 64, or keep every 2nd frame. Pick a size limit and press "Make it fit" to let the tool try these for you.
What size should a GIF be for a Discord emoji?
Discord recommends 128 × 128 pixels, and the file must be under 256 KB. Choose the Discord emoji preset: it resizes the GIF to fit 128 pixels and shows whether the file is under the limit. Slack emoji have a stricter 128 KB limit.
Can I crop a GIF too?
Yes. Turn on Crop and drag the box over the part you want to keep. You can lock it to square, 4:3, 16:9 or 9:16. The crop applies to every frame.
How do I speed up, slow down or reverse a GIF?
Use the Speed slider, from a quarter speed to four times faster, and the Reverse switch to play it backwards. Browsers cannot show a frame for less than 20 milliseconds, so when a GIF is sped up past that, frames are dropped instead and it really does play faster.
Why did my resized GIF get bigger?
Most GIFs from the web are already optimized, and re-encoding every frame can undo some of that, especially at 100% size or when you make it larger. Resizing down almost always makes the file smaller. Lowering the colors or keeping every 2nd frame helps when it does not.
Does this GIF resizer work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Pick a GIF from your photos or files, and on a phone use Share to save the result straight to Photos or send it to a chat. Very long or large GIFs can run out of memory on a phone; if that happens, crop or shorten them first.
Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?
No. The GIF is read, resized and saved by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and it works for private GIFs too.
