Tool Introduction
This Secret Santa generator draws gift-giving matches for a group so that nobody draws themselves and, if you set them, nobody draws someone on their exclusion list, such as a partner or a sibling they already live with. It runs entirely in your browser: no email addresses to collect, no accounts to create, and no server that stores your group's names. Add participants, mark any exclusion pairs, draw the names, and share results either by passing the screen around or by copying each person's match individually.
How to Use the Secret Santa Generator
- Type participant names one per line, or add them one at a time with Quick add
- Add exclusion pairs for anyone who must not draw each other, such as couples
- Optionally set a gift budget and an exchange date
- Click "Draw names" to generate the matches
- Use "Reveal one by one" so each person can privately check just their match
- Or switch to "Full list (organizer view)" if you are running the exchange and need to see or message everyone's match yourself
Use Cases: Secret Santa Made Easy
- Run an office or team holiday gift exchange without collecting email addresses
- Organize a family gift swap while keeping couples from drawing each other
- Set up a remote or hybrid exchange by messaging each person their own match
- Include a shared budget and exchange date so everyone sees the same details
- Re-draw instantly if someone joins late or drops out before the exchange
More Random Pickers
Need to split a larger group instead of pairing gift-givers? The Random Group Generator splits a list of names into balanced teams or groups. The Name Wheel picks a single random name from a list, and the List Randomizer shuffles a full list into a random order.
FAQs
Do I need everyone's email address to use this?
No. Unlike most Secret Santa generators, this tool does not ask for a single email address. You type in names, draw the matches, and share the results however you want, in person, over a call, or by copying the text into a message you send yourself.
Can I stop two specific people from drawing each other?
Yes. Add an exclusion pair for each couple or pair who should not match, for example spouses or siblings living together. The draw will never assign either person to the other, while still making sure nobody draws themselves.
Can one person see everyone's matches?
Only if you use the "Full list (organizer view)" mode, which is meant for the person running the exchange. For participants, use "Reveal one by one" instead: each person clicks their own name to privately see just their match, then clicks again to hide it before passing the device along.
How do I run the draw with a remote or online group?
Run the draw yourself as the organizer, switch to the full list view, and message each person their individual match using the per-person copy button. Nobody else needs to see the tool or the full list, only their own line of text.
What happens if my exclusions make a valid draw impossible?
The tool tries many random arrangements that respect every rule before giving up. If your exclusions genuinely make a fair draw impossible, for example one person is excluded from everyone else, it tells you clearly instead of freezing, so you can remove an exclusion or add more participants.
Is anything saved after I close the page?
No. Names, exclusions, and the draw result only exist in your browser for the current visit. Nothing is stored on a server, nothing is emailed, and reloading the page clears everything.
