What Folge is
Folge is a desktop application for creating step-by-step guides, tutorials, and process documentation. It captures a screenshot on every mouse click, lets you annotate and edit each step, and exports the finished guide to PDF, Word, PowerPoint, HTML, Markdown, and JSON. Everything runs on your own computer — there is no mandatory cloud, no account required to get started, and no per-seat subscription.
Who's behind it
Folge is built and maintained by Oleksii Sribnyi (@i_oleksii), who started Folge in 2020.
Folge started from a simple frustration: the tools for documenting a process were either browser-locked, subscription-only, or quietly shipped your screenshots to someone else's servers. Folge is the answer to that — a native app that does the capture-annotate-export loop well, respects your data, and doesn't ask you to pay every month for software you already have installed.
The roadmap is public and feature decisions are driven by customer feedback. You can see what's being worked on, and vote on what comes next, on the feedback portal.
Privacy-first, by design
Folge follows a local-first approach: your guides, screenshots, and exports live on your machine, not in our database. That's not a marketing line bolted on afterwards — it's the reason the desktop app exists. For teams with compliance requirements or sensitive internal processes, it means documentation never has to leave the building. You can read the specifics on our Security & Compliance page.
Pay once, own it
Folge is a one-time purchase of $89 (€75), with all future updates included — not a recurring subscription. There's also a free version you can use for as long as you like. We think software you rely on every day shouldn't hold your work hostage to a monthly bill.
